  • Is this service free?
There will never be a charge or cost to your facility for MDB services. We bill patients' insurances directly.
  • Is the facility charged if MDB sees a patient in a Part A/Skilled Bed?
No, none of our services will ever result in the facility being charged, directly or indirectly.
  • How quickly will we receive the providers notes?
Our policy is to deliver the notes to you within 24-48 hours via HIPAA-compliant means. Additionally, our clinicians should conduct an exit interview with you to go over pertinent items before they leave your facility.
  • How soon will a resident be seen after a referral is made?
Our referral department will process all referrals and confirm with you that we have received your referrals. Our referral department will then notify the clinicians assigned to you and your facility of the new patient(s) referred, and the clinician(s) will see them on their next scheduled visit to the facility. If it is communicated that a patient needs to be seen before the next scheduled visit, we will work to schedule them in as soon as possible.
  • Do MDB services integrate with PCC (PointClickCare)?
Yes, our services seamlessly integrate with PCC (PointClickCare), for smoother communication between MDB and our partner facilities.
  • What sets MDB apart from other long-term care services?
MDB is clinician owned and managed. All of our services are designed specifically for long-term care. We never leave a clinician on an island; they have full clinical and administrative support. Every provider is trained on the pertinent LTC CMS regulations. We believe our greatest value is providing a good service to you and your residents.
  • Do we really need this service if we already have pharmacy GDR services?
Yes! Our PMHNP-BCs work hand-in-hand with your pharmacist. We will review all GDR recommendations, and in addition, we can clarify diagnoses, document rationales for medication changes (or lack thereof if contraindicated), and follow the residents routinely to monitor the effects of any medication changes.
  • Does MDB provide emergency psychiatric services?
We do not provide emergency psychiatric or behavioral health services; however, we do everything we can to assist in difficult situations. Here are 3 practical ways we can help: (1) we provide your staff with our mental health clinicians’ cell phone numbers so they can be reached in times of need. (2) Telehealth can be utilized in urgent situations. (3) If you use MDB’s FNP services, our FNPs are always on call, may already be onsite, and can collaborate with MDB’s mental health clinical team to find the best solution quickly.
  • How often will a mental health provider visit the facility?
Our goal is to maximize the regularly scheduled presence of both our medication management and psychotherapy provider teams. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners will visit the facility 2-4 times per month depending on the caseload. The LCSWs/LPCs will visit the facility once every week, at minimum. Having a consistent and routine presence is an important part of what sets MDB apart.
  • Why do residents have to be referred for psychiatric services?
Because this is a specialty healthcare service, CMS requires a referral be made before we can see a patient.
  • What types of providers are on MDB's behavioral health team?
Psychotropic medication management services are provided by psychiatric nurse practitioners (PMHNP-BCs) who collaborate with our board-certified psychiatrists. Psychotherapy is provided by licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs) and/or licensed professional counselors (LPCs.)
  • Can a resident be referred for therapy only?
Yes! In fact, if you already have psychotropic medication management services in your facility but don’t have any therapy services, we will provide therapy services only.
  • Who qualifies for PMHNP-BC services?
Any resident currently on a regimen of any psychotropic medication, any resident with a mental or behavioral health diagnosis, and any resident experiencing behavioral issues.
  • Who qualifies for therapy services?
Our clinicians will perform a mental exam to determine if any referred resident can participate in and benefit from individual therapy.
  • What do your medical directors and attending physicians think of this service?
Many physicians are comfortable working with MDB because of our reliable history. We will never get in the way of the good service they already do. We would meet with your physicians and integrate into their desired workflow. Our services are complementary to theirs, and we’ll bridge the gap in the continuum of care.
  • Can MDB's FNPs write orders?
Our NPs can write orders as well as sign orders on behalf of the attending physicians.
  • What does a typical day look like?
Our NPs have a daily checklist that begins with communicating with your nursing staff and prioritizing your facility’s needs.
  • Can MDB provide emergency medical services?
We do not provide emergency medical services; however, we will always have an FNP on-call 24/7 who can be consulted for acute situations.
  • How often will an FNP visit the facility?
Depending on your current census, our FNPs will round in your facility anywhere from 2-5 days per week. Moreover, our FNP service is on-call to handle any situation as it arises.
  • Can a nurse practitioner provide foot care services?
Yes! CMS states that foot care is within the scope of a nurse practitioner. Any treatments that are outside the scope of the nurse practitioner or outside the ability to treat in your facility will be referred to a specialist.
  • What about diabetic shoe fittings?
MDB does not do diabetic shoe fittings, but we will be happy to refer all appropriate patients for that service.
  • Why does MDB send a team of two to your facility?
The foot care assistant saves your staff time and energy on rounding days by transporting and positioning patients for foot care services, which also allows our nurse practitioners to focus on patient care.
  • How often will a foot care nurse practitioner visit the facility?
The foot care nurse practitioner will be in your facility at least once per month, depending on the caseload at your facility. Residents will be followed every 60 days.
  • Why do residents have to be referred for foot care services?
Because this is a specialty healthcare service, CMS requires a referral be made before we can see a patient.
  • How often will a wound care nurse practitioner visit the facility?
The wound care NP will be in your facility once every week.
  • Can MDB's wound care NPs write orders?
Yes, our wound care NPs can write orders and leave them the same day.
  • Can MDB wound care NPs follow Part A beds and hospice patients?
Yes, we can follow anyone that is in need of wound care.
  • Who does MDB's wound care team consist of?
Our wound care service is provided by Wound Care Trained Physicians, Wound Care Certified NPs, and RN Clinical Liaisons.
  • Do MDB providers communicate with resident's families?
Yes, we communicate with the family before any new treatment begins.
